The sun is shining and the city is full of excitement as I wander down Königstrasse. The quaint red and white buildings of the Handwerkerhof (Craftmen's Courtyard) catch my eye and I am immediately drawn inside. It may be only 10:15 in Nuremberg, but Bavarian beer is already sitting on the table and the smell of Bratwurst fills the air.

The courtyard takes me out of 2013 and drops me smack-dab into the pages of a storybook. For all I know, Hanzel and Gretel live next door!

The sun has flooded the courtyard and the workshops´ signs are illuminated along the street. All the different ways the small stores are decorated create a cozy Franconian atmosphere.

The scenery in the Handwerkerhof is adorable. The red and white flowers that line the gingerbread looking buildings give me the traditional German feel. When I think about Germany, this is the atmosphere that comes to mind... if only I had a dirndl!

I weave my way in and out of the venues pausing only to pick up a few postcards. Bratwurst in Nuremberg are a must-have! If you have not tried them yet, the Handwerkerhof is the perfect place to order a famous Drei im Weckla.

The golden hour sun has me all hot and thirsty. I dream of sinking my feet in the sand and listening to the waves as they crash onto the shore. There may not be waves, but the city of Nuremberg obviously had the same sandy-feet desire. The only problem is that the nearest beach is about 700 km away. 'What are you going to do,' you ask? Well, if you can't bring Nuremberg to the beach, bring the beach to Nuremberg for a few months!

I follow the wooden pathways cut through the sand to look for a nice place to sit and soak up the sun. I kick my flip flops off and sink my toes into the sand and a waitress comes over to me to take my drink order. From where I am sitting, I can relax and watch a group play beach volleyball.

There is nothing like the beach in the summer. The atmosphere created in the Stadtstrand transforms the vintage city into an exotic island.

The phrase 'Meet me at Lorenzkirche' is a staple here in Nuremberg. The beautiful 1445 medieval church embellishes the center of the city. Sipping on an iced vanilla latte, I wander past my routine meeting point. After a long winter, summer has finally arrived in Nuremberg and Lorenzkirche is more idyllic than ever.

I hop onto tram number 5 and begin the journey to the Tiergarten. The tram passes the city and emerses itself into the forest where a typical public transportation ride becomes that of an amusement park. Jurassic Park enters my head as we disappear into trees. The Nuremberg Zoo is gorgeous - not only are the exotic animals fascinating, the landscape of the zoo is lush and breathtaking.

Here at Wöhrder Wiese I have spent countless hours laying on a towel, reading a book, or listening to music while getting a nice tan. I have seen everything from breakdancers, jugglers, to tightrope walkers performing in the park showing off their skills. Wöhrder Wiese is ideal for relaxation or having picnics with friends.

On a beautiful day like today, finding the park full of people comes as no surprise. When waterbottles run dry there is no need to worry. A biergarten is located right in the center of Wöhrder Wiese.

I make my way back to the city center where I spot the Schöner Brunnen, which means 'beautiful fountain'. The golden fountain sits beautifully in the Hauptmarkt not far from Lorenzkirche. Today is the perfect day, and it could become even better. Legend has it, the Schöner Brunnen grants wishes! I also believe in making wishes in fountains. I made my wish in Rome at the Trevi, in New York City in Central Park, and countless times at the Northpark mall in Dallas, so why not in Nuremeberg!

I step up to turn the ring three times and make my wish. I know exactly what I will wish for. I close my eyes, turn the ring, and wish wish wish. There is only one slight problem... I turned the wrong ring!

The correct wish-granting ring hangs on the opposite side of the 14th century fountain. Maybe I will be lucky and the Schöner Brunnen grants my wish as well.

The 40 figures on the Schöner Brunnen represent the Holy Roman Empire. I peek through the railing to take a good look at one of the figures. From the other side of Hauptmarkt, the fountain looks like a golden tower, but up close I have a completely different perspective.

I head up the hill towards the Nürnberger Kaiserburg and climb the steep entrance where I finally make it to the top. What a workout! Royalty was obviously in great shape back in the day. The view from the castle is absolutely breathtaking and the small houses on the inside in the Burggrafenburg region remind me of the same gingerbread looking buildings in the Handwerkerhof. I put my hands on the wall and stare out over the city. Nuremberg has never looked this good. So who do I need to talk to about moving in?

Standing in the Nürnberger Kaiserburg made the little girl inside of me's dreams come true. Having a castle in the heart of the city is not something I am used to, maybe a football stadium, but nothing as beautiful as this.

I step off of the U-Bahn at Opernhaus and immediately I see the Staatstheater. Built in 1905, the theater is one of the largest in Germany. The theater offers three genres: opera, drama, and ballet.

There is so much to see in Nuremberg, one cannot possibly see everything in a day. I am on my way back to Hauptbahnhof and I pass my first destination once again. The forecast is in our favor this week, so tomorrow will be another beautiful day to explore!
